The City of Lydius Defense

The beautiful Port City of Lydius opens onto the Thassa as the Laurius River joins it.  It is a long river that winds across northern Gor, bordering the northern forests. It slowly flows west though near its end it tends to incline some to the southwest, emptying into Thassa at the Port City of Lydius.

The Port City of Lydius has two Harbors.  One opening to the Thassa the other onto the Laurius River.  No matter which Harbor ye arrive at, the City Of Lydius Fleet is prepared to greet you.

SRoG Rules of Naval Engagement.  Only SRoG Registered ships will be recognized in any form of attack or battle.
(All attack storylines must be approved by the Administrator/Ubar in advance and rules and conditions agreed upon.)

On a daily basis rotating the City's Fleet strategically placing the ships in a defensive formation to protect the Harbor and surrounding waters as well as sailing the Thassa in defense formation always patrolling the thassa and the Laurius River.  The Lydius Fleet sails from the  Skerry of Vars, pass the trade isles to Schendi, always on patrol, as war ships escort merchant ships daily, the Fleets range ever expanding.

Tarn ships are the primary ships employed

Heavy & Light Rams (War Ships) are strategically placed within the harbor as well as Serpents.

If ye be foolish enough to approach the Lydius Fleet a vast array of weapons and extremely skilled sailors and warriors are ready to greet you.

The medium and heavy class ships (Rams) carry the shearing blades. They are huge quarter moons of steel, seven feet high and five inches wide.
Not only are all ram ships equipped with sheering blades (light, medium and heavy ram) but also the prows are steel shod. It is conceivable for a light ram ship to drive its prow into the rudder of a heavy ram ship, tearing it off.

Various weapons are upon each deck of the Lydius Fleet.  As the ships signal to one another with precision.

The Ballista, is a weapon that can be stored easily below or above deck. Like most, it is a catapult that will hurl large stones, usually stored near the keel as ballast, to take out the masts of opposing ships. Also Flaming Tar may be used as well.

The Tarn Calvary,  nae only are they on the soil of Lydius, many reside upon the ships as well and atop the Huge Wall about the City of Lydius.  The Admiral of the Lydius Fleet also use the tarn Calvary to swarm over ships and drop rock from tarn baskets, or sometimes deploy, cross bolts down upon the enemy ship. Many of tarnsmen love the idea of ripping apart the sails with the claws of their brethren.

The Trident, a three-pronged spearing fork used by fishermen and sailors. Can be utilized both as a thrusting weapon and as a missile weapon.  It is approximately seven feet in overall length, with prongs of 10" inches or more. Often used with a lanyard or line attached, for retrieval should it be thrown.

The Harpoon, a long slender javelin-type spear, fitted with a barbed head and used with an attached line for retrieval.

If ye have slipped past the naval defenses which is highly unlikely before ye approach Lydius soil ye are greeted by The Guard Towers.

They surround the City on every side, from the Thassa to the Laurius River to the Meadowlands.  Each Guard Tower mans five archers complete with a brazen for burning arrows along with a catapult.  Each tower can withstand substantial damage with each archer and catapult firing a total of five times for a total of 30 strikes per tower. To survive just the Guard Tower defenses, an attacker, or enemy vessel would need to take out each separate tower, archers and catapults.  If the guard towers are left standing, which they would more than likely be, they could continue firing on each individual ship. Archers firing at 2d22 and catapults firing at 2d23.  Because of the barrage of arrows and flaming arrows that could easily ignite the sail of a ship, or wood planks, if any unfriendly ships or pirates be approaching along the thassa or the Laurius River with our ships heading them off as well and the additional fire from the Guard Towers the odds of their men
setting foot upon Lydius soil are highly unlikely.

The City of Lydius is also surround by an enormous Huge Wall, which is manned by the City Watch.  Guards patrol night and day upon the Wall and are heavily armed.  Short bows, Crossbows, Quiva, daggers and the Wall is also manned by the Tarn Calvary.

If ye be unfortunate enough to meet one of the warriors of the City of Lydius, be prepared to lose ye life.  Short sword, Long sword, Quivas, Daggers and the occasional Scimitar all weapons handled with skill.

Within the City walls there is a multitude of City guards. Regardless of the number of RPers online at a current time Lydius is one of the (four) 4 Busy Free Port Cities so at any time there are hundreds of thousands of NPC's inside the City walls and there is adequate defense for such.

The area around the outside perimeter of the City Walls has been clear cut to eliminate any chance of a surprise attack through the North Forest. There are always guards in the Towers and on the Wall watching their perimeter and interior of the City to keep it safe.

A Kaiila Mounted Cavalry is implemented by the City of Lydius the Kaiila patrol both in and outside of the City keeping the peace in the streets of Lydius as well as keeping an eye on the City from the outside. There are Hundreds of Kaiila Cavalry employed by the city of Lydius.  Their range extends from the Laurius River through the Northern Forest regions.

The Tarn Cavalry of Lydius is massive and always on guard as there are constant patrols in and around the City keeping and eye on the City from above. They also have the task of maintaining the Tarn wire that is spread across the City.

Mounted Tharlarians are implemented within the City of Lydius though in much smaller number than Kaiila or Tarns they are mounted on major street corners as well, as at the gates a group of riders can be summoned at any time.  They also patrol the borders to the Northern Forest.

Outposts are maintained around the City:

Two (2) on the Laurius River
Four (4) on the coast on the Thassa one north, one south, east and west.
Four (4) on the borders to the Northern Forest.
Four (4) on the Meadowlands.
Each of these has 4 (four) Towers built, all are filled with woods and oils and can be set a blaze as a warning signal to the main City. The flames of the oil and wood filled towers would be seen easily by the guardsmen in the adjacent towers and on the walls of Lydius.

There is a Lydius Pride set up of guardsmen within the City, they are the foot soldiers of Lydius and are broken off into different sections. A large group of Spear men, another of Archers and then the main group of sword and ax wielding warriors whom are all fiercely protective of their Home Stone.
