A Warrior must be prepared to give all to maintain his Honor.
Without Honor there is nothing.  - pg.478, Magicians of Gor

I have written a training manual as a guide to assist you in the training of your applicants.  This is merely a guide, it is not required in anyway, it is merely to assist you in the training of your warriors.  We all desire well trained warriors but we cannot achieve this if we are not willing to take a little time with each applicant and teach/train them correctly.  As in all things, take what you like leave what you don't.

I wish all well,

 Training Manual for Sponsors

1) Make sure you send links pertaining to the training, most find this very helpful. Of course all should be encouraged to read the website and know the rules and dice.  A weapons list is also helpful as well as a Gor map.  Also helpful to include is a map of your Home Stone if you have made one and go over the defenses in place for your city.  Warriors cannot defend what they do not know.

2) Set aside a night where you discuss sparring. It is not necessary to tell anyone how to RP...but convey to the applicant realistic RP.  If you are hit in the jaw with a 20/22.. You are not going to laugh it off with no reaction and lunge back at your opponent ... Explain that a realistic response is good RP....and does not show weakness but the reality of the situation.  Watching anyone spar as super human is boring if not down right irritating to most.

3)  Explain the dice regulations in detail.  That an applicant starts at 2d/22...how he earns 2d/23 and how he earns or can use higher dice when appropriate.

4) Make sure you email him a list of the Warrior Codes.  C/P from the website if need be but do send it to the applicant.

5)  Send city mail to all your warriors, introducing the new applicant and make them aware and encourage them to assist with the training or to answer questions the applicant may have.

6)  Make at least one spar a training session.  Teach the warrior to handle weapons he is not familiar with and discuss sparring versus a Brother in Arms and a spar defending oneself in a dispute.  Warriors can be competitive and show strength without inflicting severe injury to each other.  (Do we really want Brothers in Arms kicking each other in the head?  Crippling lower back kicks, kidney punches, head-butting, throat strikes, broken noses?... etc..)  Those strikes are deadly force if the dice roll is high and no warrior should desire to truly harm and or kill their Brother in Arms.)

7)  Copy/Paste the exam if one is given in an email for them and inform the applicant there is no rush.  Go over the questions and any others they may have to prepare them for the interview, if one is given.  Have them take their time learning the material and do not provide them the answers to the test questions or interview.  Provide them the webpages and links that have the answers so they read and learn on their own.  The longer they review the material the more knowledge they will obtain.

8)  Before the application is sent in, review it and look over your applicants spar log.  Does your applicant respond realistically to the strikes, did he answer the questions correctly on the exam?  If any areas are lacking take a little more time to train him and give him a chance to redo his application and another spar for review if needed.  Do not rush the applicant just so he has those initials in his profile, as they do not mean much if our warriors are not trained brothers.
