-History-

The original Vineyards began in Schendi by Trenton's father, Markus De' Shea on the estate of their family home.  Palm Wine being the wine of the region, nae interested Markus so he set out to yield his own special Kalana blend.  The label of De'Shea Kalana shipped throughout Gor was treasured as only so many cases per en'var were shipped for trade & export.  The De'Shea family home still remains as do the original Vineyards but Schendi De'Shea Kalana is nae longer produced, several cases still remain to this day.

After settling to the beautiful City of Lydius Trenton found the Sloping Valley as it reminded him of the Vineyards he played in as a boy and the tradition of De'Shea Kalana once again thrives in the beautiful
Lydius Vineyards.....

The majority of the grapes are selected from the kalana plants in the center of the Sloping Valley, a region well known for producing intensely flavored grape varieties. The balance of sunny days and cool nights by the thassa here is perfect for developing complex, ripe flavors and supple tannins in De'Shea Kalana. A range of soils contributes to the diverse flavors in this wine.

-Winemaker's Notes-

It is a sweet and fragrant, rich and red. Ripe dark berry, and spice, weave through the aromas and smooth, velvety flavors of our De'Shea Kalana. These rich, expressive flavors come from the soils and climates of vineyards located primarily in the geographic center of the Sloping Valley. Here in this prime location of the Sloping Valley by the thassa De'Shea Kalana develops intensely flavored grapes with impeccable balance. Firm tannins support the abundant fruit character and give the wine excellent length on the palate. Fermentation with both cultured and native yeast strains gives layers of nuance to the wine, and extended skin contact intensifies variety complexity and softens tannins.

-Fermentation & Aging-

The Kalana grapes are hand-harvested early in the morning, to retain vibrant fruit character and natural acidity, and immediately brought to our winery.  After gently destemming and crushing the grapes, we fermented the must (juice and skins) in steel tanks at 88-92º. We used a combination of cultured and native yeast to give the wine layers of nuance. To soften tannins and enhance variety complexity, we gave the wine tre' hands skin contact. The wine was pressed and transferred to tem wood barrels to undergo long, native malolactic fermentation for roundness and depth. During aging of over an en'var in the tem wood  barrels we naturally clarified the wine with barrel-to-barrel racking. A blend of tre' grapes add to the floral and spice nuances to the De' Shea Kalana. Bottled unfiltered.
